Case Study: Kansas Turnpike Authority

The Kansas Turnpike Authority (KTA) contacted Midwest Foam Works to address a critical safety hazard at a major toll booth located south of Wichita. Several large concrete slabs had lost their supporting base, creating instability and posing a serious risk to both drivers and toll operations.

The Challenge: Slabs Taking a Toll on Traffic

The unstable slabs were shifting beneath heavy traffic, creating dangerous conditions for vehicles. Traditional repair options involved tearing out and replacing the affected slabs. While effective, this approach would have required extended lane closures, leading to significant traffic delays and disruption for commuters.

The Solution: High-Density Polyurethane Foam

Midwest Foam Works proposed a faster, less disruptive solution: stabilizing the existing slabs with high-density polyurethane foam. Once injected, the foam expanded to fill the voids beneath the concrete, restoring stability without the need for demolition or replacement.
